JAMBAVAN CAVES



Jambavan Caves an ancient place situated  in Ranavav  which is at a distance of 17 KM from Porbandar Railway station in Gujrat. Also known as Jambavant ki Gufa or Jambavant Cave. This Cave was the resting place of the Jambavan




MYTHOLOGY AND HISTORY

Jambavan, was king of Bears and related to Ramayana also great follower of Rama. He helped in search of Sita and realized Hanuman regarding his ability to cross 100 miles of ocean to search for sita in Lanka.

Description related to Jambavan found in  Dvapara yuga  with Lord Krishana and Treta yuga with Lord Rama. This is the place where Jambavan fought with Lord Krishana. According to epic Satrajit  owned a powerful Jem named Syamantaka. When his brother Presena wearing jem went to forest for hunting  was killed by Lion to take possession of jem. Jambavan Killed Lion to take possession of jem.

On the other side Satrajit blamed Lord Krishna for killing of his brother to get the jem. Lord Krishna searched for the real killer and found jem with Jambavan. And then fight between Lord Krishana and Jambavan last for 28 days . Once he realised that Lord Krishana was the next avatar of God Vishnu, he gave up the fight for jem. He  done marriage of his daughter with Lord Krishana and gave the jem.

ARCHITECTURE



The Caves has the 50 shivalingas which were naturally formed by the sand falls with the waterfalls from the roof of the caves. There is temple of  Lord Rama and Samadhi of  Saint Ramadas from Maharashtra who had done tapas in the cave. Inside the cave there are two tunnel one went for the way of Dvaraka and other went to Junagarh which is famous for Gir Lion Sanctuary.

There is exact spot where Jambavan gave the jem and his daughter to Lord Krishana. Through Jambavan Lord Rama remembered in Gujrat. Every year a big fair is celebrated at this place.
